What happens to the immune system as we age?

Speaker Dr Siddharth Jhunjhunwala:

Aging is associated with a decline in function of numerous cell types of the body, and the immune cells are no different. But what does a decline in immune response look like in mammals? In this webinar, first a description of the changes in various immune cells will be provided. Next, how these changes impact a coordinated immune response against invading pathogens using an example of recent work from our laboratories at the Indian Institute of Science will be discussed. Finally, following up on our work, a perspective of how dysregulation of immune responses result in higher levels of inflammation and resultant tissue immunopathology will be provided.
